Who are we?

The information that we have on the Hilton-Robinson family tree was obtained from the Census records for Clarendon County, Manning, SC, dated August 8, 1870.

The recorded beginning of our family tree starts with Benjamin Robinson born in 1870 and married to Millie Robinson. They only listed 4 children: Charlotte, Ben, Henry, & Sam. Sam was born in Santee, SC, Clarendon County, in 1842. He was married to Emily Davis and they had 10 children: Ned, Martha, James, Henry, Catherine, Joe, Warren, Luanna, and Jasper.

Henry Robinson was married to Kate Schuler and they had 9 children: Nora, Carrie, Zilpher, (known as Babe), Binkey, Mary Ida, Thomas, Oscar, Sara Ellen, and Willie.

Charlotte Robinson was born in 1835. She was married to Nelson Sprott and they had one son, James. Benjamin Robinson, Jr. was born in 1838 and was married to Rina. They had 5 children: Millie, George, Wilson, Grant, and Ben.

The Hilton tree starts with Amos Hilton, who was born in 1811 and was married to Hetta, (last name unknown). They had 11 children: Welborn, Fullard, Amos, Jr., Rebecca (Binkie), January, Tarleton, Moses, Alfred (also known as Hayes), and Morgan. It is noted in the records that Morgan's granddaughter, Gardenia Stukes, along with her husband and children were one of the 20 families who filed suit against segregated schools in Clarendon County (known as Briggs vs. Elliott). This case was grouped with others by the NAACP in the famous Brown vs. the Board of Education in 1954.

Jasper Robinson (son of Sam and Emily Robinson), married Loutisher Hilton (daughter of Welborn and Mary Eliza Hilton). They had 6 daughters: Florence, Maebell, Queen Esther, Lucille, Cleo, and Margaret.

Mary Hilton, who is Loutisher Hilton's sister, married Moses Robinson (son of Warren and Gussie Robinson). They did not have any children.

Jasper Robinson's sister, Catherine Robinson, married Ike Hilton. They had 12 children: Viola (known as Ola), Willie Alma, Louise (known as Tude), Lilly Mae, Glennie (known as Big Baby), Minnie, Kate, Ollie, Sam, Mary (known as Boozie), Peter, and Joe.

Jasper Robinson's brother, Joe Robinson, married Rheatis Hilton (daughter of Welborn and Mary Eliza Hilton), and Loutisher Hilton's sister. They had 8 children: Emma Lou, Welborn, Rheatis, Louis, Amos, Annie Eliza, Charles, and Bernice.

William Hilton (son of Morgan and Ella Hilton), married Mary Ida Robinson (daughter of Henry Robinson and Kate Shuler). They had 11 children: William, Jr., Henry, Carrie, Annie, Johnny, Kate, Jessie, Cora, Lula, Marie, and Alethia.
